Ashburton is renowned for its charming architecture, with many historic buildings dating back several centuries. The town’s streets are lined with traditional cottages, Georgian townhouses, and historic inns. Notable landmarks include St. Andrew’s Church, which dates back to the 15th century, and the Old Grammar School, built in 1660.

While Ashburton’s economy historically revolved around agriculture and the wool trade, today it is more diverse. The town supports a range of businesses, including independent shops, restaurants, and artisanal crafts.

Tourism also plays a significant role, with visitors drawn to Ashburton’s scenic surroundings and cultural attractions. Ashburton has a vibrant cultural scene, with various events and festivals held throughout the year.

These include the Ashburton Food and Drink Festival, which celebrates the region’s culinary delights, and the Ashburton Blues Festival, showcasing live music from local and international artists. The town also has a thriving arts community, with galleries and studios showcasing the work of local artisans.
